Fatema, a mother of three has been working in the saffron industry for 7 years. Being employed by ARG has allowed her to work in all the stages involved in producing and processing saffron. Given the delicacy of the saffron flower, picking, drying and packaging takes great skill and expertise and employees like Fatema ensure that only the highest quality saffron passes the required standards. 

In a country where women have few rights and struggle to find meaningful and long-term employment the opportunity working with saffron provides women with the potential for a positive future. Living in a country that has experienced huge volatility across her whole life, she is happy to have some stability and the ability to provide for her family. Together with her fellow workers work has elevated the women’s standing in the community and they feel strongly that they are now able to directly contribute to improving their local community. They all look forward to a brighter future in Afghanistan.
