At Growing Hope we are focused on empowering rural farmers, particularly women farmers, who live and work in extreme poverty. This is often in fragile contexts, in areas where climate change is felt the most, and where smallholder farming is the only income their family receives. Despite these significant challenges they are still able to grow amazing produce, which we want to share to new markets! Giving access to international markets we can increase the income farmers receive which will beat the cycle of poverty and help support sustainable development for thousands of households.
What stands Growing Hope apart is our commitment to sourcing produce globally from those left furthest behind whilst maintaining the quality, reliability, and processing standards expected in western markets. We work with our farmers, local enterprises, and cooperatives to ensure that responsible business conduct is enhanced throughout the supply chain. Promoting worker rights, building capacity, we are committed to promoting safe working conditions regardless of the local environment.
We ensure farmers are paid a premium rate for a premium product allowing them to make more than they would at a local market, improving their finances, helping to maintain and expand their business.
For the past decade, Tim has travelled the world as a development and humanitarian worker, supporting rural communities in building more prosperous and resilient livelihoods. From Liberia to Afghanistan, he witnessed first-hand how access to local markets is often the first step out of poverty. However, he also saw an opportunity to go further—connecting those in extreme poverty to the global food market.
"Working with these farmers, I saw incredible entrepreneurial spirit, particularly among women, who face so many challenges. This inspired me to find a way to showcase their talent and the amazing products they produce."
To bridge the gap to international markets, starting with the UK, Ian joined Growing Hope. With over 20 years of experience in the retail sector—both in the UK and globally—Ian has developed a deep understanding of customer needs and business culture. His expertise in working with end-users and retail management teams is helping to bring these incredible products to new markets, ensuring fair opportunities for the farmers behind them.
